Synopsis

Jeong Kwan has never formally trained as a chef or run a restaurant. Above all, she is a Buddhist nun devoted to spiritual practice. The Philosopher’s Kitchen is a two-part documentary offering an intimate portrait of her life and a philosophy of cooking shaped by nature, the changing seasons, and Buddhist teachings. Through seasonal ingredients, preserved foods, fermentation, and intuitive cooking, Jeong Kwan reflects on time, relationships, memory, and the belief that all flavors ultimately become one. Blending food, philosophy, nature, and spiritual practice, the series reveals the wisdom and beauty of Korean temple cuisine through the extraordinary life and perspective of Jeong Kwan.
